Clive Iowa Community Information:

Clive is conveniently located near the crossroads of Interstate 35 and 80 on the western edge of Des Moines. Platted in 1882 and incorporated in 1956. Clive once was a simple neighborhood with a few houses clustered around the intersection of Walnut Creek, a railroad and a county road. By 2000, its population had grown to 12,855-nearly 60 percent higher than it was in 1990.

Style is the word for Clive and its residential living. From the Country Club and The Woodlands, to Hickory Hills Lake, Waters Edge and Wood Creek, to Edgewood and Stonegate, Clive offers a variety of residential options to its citizens.

Clive Aquatics Center is making a splash with Clive residents and other citizens of the Des Moines metro area. The state-of-the-art facility located at 1801 N.W. 114^th St features a 14,000 square-foot outdoor swimming pool that holds up to 800 people.

Parks are plentiful in Clive. In addition to the Aquatics Center, these include a variety of neighborhood parks, such as Huntington Ridge, Westview and lions parks. The city also offers Campbell Recreation Area, 12385 Woodlands Parkway, a 32-acre park with three adult softball fields, three sand volleyball courts, a basketball court, three tennis courts, a large playground, open space for soccer or football, and a gazebo. Linnan Park, 8500 Alice Ave. features an open-air shelter with restrooms, picnic tables, grills, three tennis courts, a wading pool, a playground area, a basketball court and a hall diamond. Greenbelt Part, 10490 Maddox Parkway, stretches nearly the entire length of the city and offers more than eight miles of walking and biking trails, a shelter house, a ball diamond, tow children’s play areas and nine bridges. It also provides a link to the Raccoon Regional Trail.

Linnan Park is the site of the weekly Clive After Five parties, sponsored by the Clive Jaycees, which occur every Friday May through August. A nominal admission price includes three drink tickets and live music provided by some of the best local bands.

Clive has a vibrant hospitality industry, with numerous hotels and restaurants. Diners can eat Mexican food at Raul’s Mexican Food; Asian food at Grand China Buffet, Clive Chinese Fast Foods or Taiwan Café; Italian food at Cosi Cucina Italian Grill; or choose traditional American menus.

School age children in Clive are enrolled in two districts.
